Depressed Parrot Put On Prozac
A pet parrot was put on Prozac after his long time owner died.
George Dance who raised ‘Fred’ from a chick has become very depressed since the passing of his owner. Fred an African Grey Parrot chewed all of his neck feathers away, and was moving his head up and down all day. Veterinarians believe he went into a very severe depression because he did not understand where George went.
The vet has put him on a pet version of the popular drug Prozac in liquid form. since the dosage began, Fred has come back to his old self.
Georges wife, Helen, alerted the vet of Fred’s weird behaviour, and says that the two of them were very close.
Animal experts say that this is becoming more and more common with parrots.
